A joint judicial seminar was held by the Curia of Hungary and the Federal Administrative Court of Germany (Bundesverwaltungsgericht) on 10-12 October 2018 in Budapest. The event sought to provide a platform for the participants to discuss issues related to the latest development of the administrative courts’ case-law, the new Hungarian Code of Administrative Litigation and the restructuring of the Hungarian administrative court system.
The seminar was attended by the President and some of the justices of the Federal Administrative Court of Germany, the President of the Curia of Hungary, the judges, senior advisors and court secretaries of the administrative section of the Administrative and Labour Department of the Curia of Hungary, some staff members of the Ministry of Justice of Hungary as well as a representative of the National Office for the Judiciary of Hungary.
At the event held in the Curia’s Mailáth Room, Dr. Klaus Rennert, President of the Federal Administrative Court of Germany stated that in addition to the vertical communication between the European Court of Justice and the national courts of the EU Member States there is also an essential need for horizontal communication between the European countries’ national judicial forums.
The President of the Curia of Hungary recalled the history of the cooperation between the two supreme judicial bodies. Dr. Péter Darák pointed out that the structure of the new Hungarian administrative court system would make it essential to continue to seek an intensive exchange of experiences with the Federal Administrative Court of Germany.
